| 内容記述 | Appropriate dental treatment and oral care is essential in correctional facilities because oral health is inextricably linked to overall health, and mental and physical health may influence inmatesʼ attitudes during their incarceration. However, the disclosure on dental treatment and oral care in correctional facilities is insufficient, and much is unknown about the actual situation in Japan. In contrast, in California, a class action lawsuit was filed regarding dental care in prisons, and efforts are being made to establish laws and manuals on medical care, mental health, and dental care in prisons, as well as to distribute handbooks to inmates containing information on medical services during their time in prison. Referring to these practices may be helpful in some aspects for Japanese institutions as well. Therefore, this paper provides an overview of the practice in California with a focus on the rights of inmates and the manner of providing information regarding dental treatment and oral care in correctional facilities, and provides suggestions on these issues. | |||||||||
