| 内容記述 | This article on migration in Spain in the sixteenth century is based on two areas of study. Firstly, through a review of the secondary literature, I examine a number of historiographical questions. An analysis of these questions provides an overview of the valuable research on migration which this article draws on. Furthermore, it signals an important aspect of migration that has not been addressed by historians until now, which is the fact that the majority of migrants did not return to their birthplaces. Building on this historiographical study, the second part of this article explores the complex social phenomenon of migration through an analysis of a new body of evidence drawn from my extensive archival research on Procesos de Fe（Trials of Faith）. Through an examination of this evidence, it is demonstrated that “non-return migration” was a common practice amongst men and women of the lower strata in sixteenth-century Spain. | |||||||
